Mike and Renay Powell worked as youth pastors and as evangelists before becoming pastors of First Assembly of God, Royse City, TX in 1986, a position they held for 6 years.  In 1992 they left their growing church and served as missionaries in Mexico for 14 years.  While in Mexico they planted over 20 churches, held over 30 city wide crusades, pioneered the televising of crusades on public television and developed ministry strategies for public schools. In 2006 Mike and Renay founded SMR (Strategic Missionary Resources), a unique international ministry dedicated to networking with missionaries and specialized ministries to serve as a ministry resource to missionaries and national churches around the world, particularly in the areas of church planting, evangelism and church growth.  In September of 2012, the Powells accepted the call to serve as pastors here at First Assembly of God in Lavon, Texas bringing with them a wealth of ministry experience and a passion for doing whatever it takes to see people’s lives impacted with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Mike and Renay have been married for 35 years and have three married children and five grandchildren.
